What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They are widely used to make websites function, remember your preferences, or collect information about how you use a site.

In addition to cookies, websites can also use local storage — a similar browser mechanism that stores data locally on your device without expiry dates. We use local storage (not cookies) for one specific function, described below.

What We Use

Local Storage — Voting Identifier (Strictly Necessary)

When you vote on a submission, we generate a random anonymous identifier and store it in your browser's local storage under the key sloped_voter_v1. This identifier is a randomly generated string with no connection to your identity. It is used solely to prevent the same browser from casting duplicate votes.

• Duration: Until you clear your browser's site data
• Purpose: Strictly necessary — fair community voting
• Shared with third parties: No

Analytics — Plausible (No Cookies)

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate. Plausible is specifically designed to be privacy-respecting: it does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, does not track you across websites, and is fully compliant with GDPR, PECR, CCPA, and COPPA. The data collected is anonymous page view statistics.

• Type: Script (no cookies set)
• Data collected: Anonymous aggregate statistics only (page views, referrers, country-level geography)
• Personal data collected: None
• Shared with third parties: No

What We Do Not Use

We do not use:

• Advertising or targeting cookies
• Social media tracking pixels
• Third-party tracking scripts (beyond Plausible, which sets no cookies)
• Session cookies beyond those strictly necessary for the site to function

Managing Your Preferences

Because we do not use non-essential cookies, there is no cookie consent banner to manage. If you wish to remove the voting identifier from your browser's local storage, you can do so through your browser settings:

• Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings → View permissions and data stored across sites
• Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data
• Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data

Note that clearing the voting identifier will reset your vote history on the site.
