The short version: Slop-Eds.com does not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies. We use a small amount of browser local storage for core site functionality, and privacy-respecting analytics that collect no personal data.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They are widely used to make websites function, remember your preferences, or collect information about how you use a site.
In addition to cookies, websites can also use local storage — a similar browser mechanism that stores data locally on your device without expiry dates. We use local storage (not cookies) for one specific function, described below.
When you vote on a submission, we generate a random anonymous identifier and store it in your browser's local storage under the key sloped_voter_v1. This identifier is a randomly generated string with no connection to your identity. It is used solely to prevent the same browser from casting duplicate votes.
We use Plausible Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate. Plausible is specifically designed to be privacy-respecting: it does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, does not track you across websites, and is fully compliant with GDPR, PECR, CCPA, and COPPA. The data collected is anonymous page view statistics.

We do not use:
Because we do not use non-essential cookies, there is no cookie consent banner to manage. If you wish to remove the voting identifier from your browser's local storage, you can do so through your browser settings:
Note that clearing the voting identifier will reset your vote history on the site.
We will update this policy if our use of cookies or local storage changes. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.
