This policy explains what personal data Slop-Eds.com collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who We Are

Slop-Eds.com is a community satire website. The data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR is Slop-Eds.com. You can contact us regarding data matters at: hello@slop-eds.com.

What Data We Collect and Why

1. Email Addresses (Newsletter)

If you subscribe to The Weekly Slop-Ed newsletter, we collect your email address. We use this solely to send you our weekly digest of community nominations. We do not share this with third parties for marketing purposes.

2. Email Addresses (Submission Notifications)

After submitting a nomination, you may optionally provide your email address to receive the community's verdict on your submission. This is entirely voluntary.

3. Submission Content

When you submit a nomination, we collect the article title, publication, purported author, industry, seniority level, and your reason for nominating it. This content is published publicly on the site as part of the community feed.

4. Voting Identifier

To prevent duplicate voting, we generate a random anonymous identifier and store it in your browser's local storage. This identifier contains no personal information and cannot be used to identify you. It is not transmitted to any third party.

5. Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-respecting analytics service. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track you across sites. It records only aggregate statistics such as page views and referral sources.

Where Your Data Is Stored

Submission content, email addresses, and voting records are stored using Supabase, a database platform hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Data may be stored in data centres within the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. Supabase complies with GDPR requirements. For more information, see Supabase's Privacy Policy.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We share data only with the service providers listed in this policy (Supabase, Plausible) who process data on our behalf under appropriate data processing agreements. We may disclose data if required by law.

Your Rights Under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@slop-eds.com. We will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you believe your data has been handled unlawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection supervisory authority.
